Helping local children have family by their side during overnight hospital stays.
With the support of the local community, we’re funding overnight bed chairs for families across North and West Auckland.
Being in hospital can be a scary experience for children. It’s vital for them to have a parent or carer by their side – especially at night when they may wake up in an unfamiliar environment feeling anxious and needing reassurance.
Having a lie-flat chair in every room allows a parent or carer to have a comfortable place to rest throughout the day and during overnight stays, so they can remain close to their child during treatment at Waitākare Hospital.
An overnight bed chair in every room
Overnight bed chairs can allow a parent or carer to stay close through the night and help children feel safer and more supported in hospital.
By day, they offer a comfortable place to sit, and in the evening they extend and lie flat, making it easier to remain beside a sick child throughout the night.
With a bed chair for every room:
Children feel safer and less anxious during their stay.
Parents and carers can get some much-needed rest.
Nurses and doctors benefit from calmer patients.
Supports a more family-centred hospital experience.
Thank you to our generous supporters for helping families across our region stay close when a child is in hospital.

“As a parent, I know how important it is to be there for your children when they’re going through tough times. Having overnight beds in Waitākare Hospital will help local families stay close when kids need it most. Babich Wines is proud to support Well Foundation for this important appeal."

"I still remember sleeping on the floor and in a hard plastic chair beside my mum in hospital — when someone you love is unwell, you want to stay close, but being rested matters too so you can care for them properly. These chairs will make a world of difference for families during some of their toughest moments."
