Advancing paediatric swallowing assessments with innovative technology
We are excited to share the news of the implementation of innovative, non-invasive technology to enhance feeding and swallowing assessments for children—made possible through the generous support of the Phyllis Raithby Wilson and Bruton Sweet Trust.
Pictured are some of our dedicated Speech and Language Therapists from Waitākere Hospital, familiarising themselves with the newly acquired Cervical Auscultation Microphones. This cutting-edge technology enables clinicians to listen to children’s swallows in a non-invasive way, offering a more comfortable alternative to traditional stethoscope methods. Last year, 90 children were referred to the speech and language therapists for swallowing problems. The integration of this practice into the service is already making a significant impact on feeding assessments and management for young patients.
This incredible grant, managed by Perpetual Guardian, is transforming the assessment and treatment of speech, feeding, mobility, and function for children—leading to better outcomes and an improved quality of life. We are so appreciative! Thank you to the Phyllis Raithby Wilson and Bruton Sweet Trust, managed by Perpetual Guardian.
